Smooth snake is known in Kazakhstan from several meetings in 1871-1956 on the territory of present-day Aktyubinsk Region: in the Alginsky district, in the northern vicinity of the town of Aktyubinsk, at the Kundug river in Mugodzhary, on the right tributaries of the Irgiz river. We do not attribute the absence of the finds for more than 50 years to the extinction of the species from the fauna of the Republic of Kazakhstan, but to the insufficient herpetological studies in the areas of possible habitats of the Smooth snake.
