Quality of life assessment of patients with chronic hemorrhoids stage III-IV before and after surgical treatment

The study of quality of life of patients with chronic hemorrhoids stage III-IV before and after different versions of surgical treatment was the aim of this research. 63 patients suffering from chronic hemorrhoids stage III-IV were operated in the department of common surgery of Military Medical Academy named by S.M. Kirov from 2012 to 2013 years. The chronic hemorrhoids stage III is diagnosed in 49 patients (77,8%), stage IV in 14 (22,2%). 26 women (41,3%) and 37 men (58,7%) at the age from 23 to 81 were include in researched group (average age was 50,4 ± 13,3). To conduct the study patients were separated into basic and control group. The basic group consisted of 34 (53,9%) patients undergoing hemorrhoidectomy in original modification [7]. The control group is comprised of 29 (46,1%) patients undergoing by Milligan-Morgan method in second modify of State Scientific Center of Proctology using LigaSure. The common Questionnaire of quality of life EQ-5D (Questionnaire of EuroQOL Group) and specialized Questionnaire used during operations on the rectum (Pomazkin V. I., 2009) were used as instruments of study in this research. Patient-reported outcomes were implemented in several cases: before operation (on admission to hospital), via 1 and via 3 months after surgical intervention. The improvement of quality of life after surgical treatment was registered in the analysis. Higher significance and quicker recovery of physical, psychoemotional and social indexes were observed when hemorrhoidectomy in modification of common surgery has been used.
