The article deals with the main problems of domestic cattle breeding, where increasing the competitiveness of products is considered by us as a necessary element in the development of domestic cattle breeding. Such a complex multi-product system requires a common mechanism for evaluating competitive advantages in milk production. Milk is the most important food resource, and the ongoing growth in demand for domestic products creates favorable prerequisites for the profitable development of the industry and the dairy subcomplex, oblige to pay serious attention to increasing its production. Milk in unprocessed form is not a commodity position on the world market, therefore, the main criterion for assessing competitiveness for milk producers is the cost of its production. The cost of milk is directly dependent on organizational, economic, production and climatic factors. The article gives an assessment of the established dairy production complex in the Udmurt Republic, which is traditionally one of the most important dairy regions of the country for milk production. Most agricultural organizations of the republic do not plan to stop there and will continue to invest in technologies and increase the productivity of livestock. The research uses a methodology for analyzing the competitiveness of agricultural organizations for milk production and calculates a complex coefficient of competitiveness, identifies competitors for the production of milk of the organization under study. Measures are proposed to improve competitiveness, which contribute to increasing the efficiency of milk production. The increase in milk production efficiency is due to an improvement in milk quality, an increase in cow productivity and a decrease in the incidence of dairy herd.
