We have assessed the possibilities and limitations of using the classical Leontief input-output model and the Social Accounting Matrix method in analytical and forecast calculations. The article describes the main provisions of the input-output model of total expenditures, which is characterized by the expansion of its endogenous part due to the indicators of personal consumption expenditures. We have shown the advantages of a new approach to assessing the multiplier effects in the economy, based on the summation of production and consumer costs, as well as the additional possibilities of the proposed model in comparison with the classical input-output balance. It is described the content of the main stages of calculating the multipliers according to the model under consideration. We have analyzed and corrected the information base of the input-out model using the updated input- output tables for the Republic of Buryatia, calculated the multipliers of gross output and income for three sectors of the republic's economy. It has been revealed the significant differences in the values of the multipliers for the considered input-output models.
