The article presents the analysis of some episodes from the reign of Dayan Khan, a central figure in the post-imperial Mongolia. His reign is traditionally viewed as an era of political restoration and societal consolidation, which ultimately shaped the political landscape of the Mongolian world in the New era. The author considers the most significant views on the chronological discrepancies in the primary sources concerning his life and reign. The article pays attention to the key moments in the consolidation of power in Dayan Khan’s hands, emphasizing the decisive role of Mandukhai khatun in the early period of his reign. The administrative reform is considered to be Dayan Khan’s legacy that resulted in the formation of the six tumens of Eastern Mongolia which his sons headed.
