The rivers of Perm the Great were a part of the water ways of the ancient system, used by the ancestors of modern Komi. The etymology Prikamye's gydronims indicates that names of the rivers had peculiar «navigation» characteristics. Gidronimy of Komi was original «verbal sailing directions», facilitating orientation and campaigns. Vishera, Biser, Bisert are the rivers which indirectly lead to portages, but not coming to the end with them. Veslyana, Vesiolaya, being the intermediate parts of a waterway in the direction to portages, at the same time determine the border of movements and turning point to the river, which shows the way to portage. Visy and Visky are the waterways connecting lakes with the rivers. Kolvy, Koly are the rivers running from lakes and proceeding through them. Chusy, Chusovye, as a rule, are the small and narrow rivers which more often go to portages. By the rivers Vishera (by Vishera-Lozva logways) and Chusova it was possible to get to Western Siberia. From the upper courses of Kama, through its tributary streams Veslyana and Chiornay it was possible to get in the tributary stream of Vychegda, Sysola fnd through Volosnitsky portage to Vyatka. It was the main reason for aspiration for the first Vyms Komi, and then for Moscow government to take control of Cherdyn which was strategically important transit interchange in the Northern Urals.
