The article explores onomastics, a branch of linguistics that studies proper names, their origins, meanings, and functions in language. Onomastics is presented as a significant historical discipline that helps understand migration patterns, language heritage, and cultural connections between ethnic groups. Special attention is given to onomastic neologisms, which are widely used in television discourse, particularly in humorous and entertainment shows. Examples from popular programs like “Whose Line Is It Anyway?” and “Wild 'n Out” illustrate how proper names become the basis for creating new words that reflect the character and behavior of participants. The article also analyzes onomastic neologisms in Russian TV shows, such as “Improvisation” and “Comedy Club”, highlighting their role in creating unique images and humorous contexts.
