The operative study of underground cavities by 3D-scanning

The article considers the method of remote study of voids and cavities. The methods are proposed and tested such as the method of peeking, the method of head down, the method of short scanner stroke and mixed methods. There are differences in these methods. These are conditions of review from points in which apparatus is installed and installation ways of scanning device. In this work, the scanner model FARO FOCUS was used. As an example the study of boreholes and drainage is given. Design of 3D-model is carried out by cross-section series building of the studied cavity. Visualization of such a numerical matrix may be performed in various forms such as maps of contour lines, the color-tone map, the shadow map and third-dimensional block-diagram. The technique is rapid and it provides production of exact geometrical characteristics of the object and orientation parameters relative to the external space. The approach allows to reduce or avoid the risk of personnel stay in the underground cavity.
