It has been established that β-endorphin and dynorphin A modulate the effects of stress, but the direction of exposure depends on both the dose administered and the presence of an additional activation stimulus. In general, β-endorphin and dynorphin A act on the functional activity of peritoneal macrophages unidirectionally - opioid peptides stimulate the production of oxygen radicals (β-endorphin is somewhat stronger), and the secretion of cytokines both pro- (IL-1β) and anti-inflammatory (IL-10), mostly suppressed.
