Costs of opportunistic behavior in Russian economy

The article studies the problem of opportunistic behavior as one of the basic behavioral characteristics of the new institutional economics. Over the last decades various forms of opportunistic behavior have become widely spread in different sectors of Russian economy. One of the most vivid examples of that were the actions of Russian commercial banks during the crisis of 2008-2009. The aim of the article is to identify the opportunities and sources for opportunistic behavior and its elements on the example of the Russian banking sector. The author studies the current state and the problems of Russian banking system for the purpose of finding out sources of opportunistic behavior. The article argues that there are direct dependences between sources of opportunism and its specific forms in the banking sector.
