Dating of archaeological wood from the Tashtyk tombs at Markelov Mys II and Chegerak cemeteries

We propose a chronology of the Tashtyk burial complexes from the Khakassia-Minusinsk Hollow based on the tree-ring and radiocarbon analyses of archaeological wood from the Chegerak earthen burial mound and the crypt from mound 8 at the Markelov Mys II cemetery. The dendrochronological analysis has shown that the crypt was constructed 40 years earlier than the earthen mound. The absolute dates of the sites have been generated through carbon-14 wiggle-match dating considering the data of the tree-ring chronology. The Markelov Mys II crypt dates fall in the range of 233-339 AD, the dates of the Chegerak earthen burial mound are in the range of 270-376 AD. The proposed approach provides a basis for developing a tree-ring chronology of archaeological sites in the Khakassia-Minusinsk Hollow.
