Experience in training highly qualified scientists in Vitebsk State University named after P.M. Masherov

The article provides the results of the analysis of training highly qualified scientific workers at Vitebsk State University named after P.M. Masherov. The author focuses on the successes, problems and prospects of the postgraduate university activities. The author makes the conclusion about the importance of systematic and systematically organized work on the improvement of postgraduate education. The article suggests some measures of improvement such as research work, starting with term papers and dissertations, master’s thesis, and finishing with the subject of dissertation research; constant monitoring of the needs of organizations representing the real sector of the economy; careful selection of individuals who want to enroll in postgraduate department, with the definition of their motivational readiness to receive postgraduate education; imposing higher requirements for starting postgraduate studies and postgraduate students having entrance examinations.
