We studied 100 cases of peridural anesthesia followed by extended peridural analgesia. After surgery, most of the patients (88%) had no pain syndrome and showed no signs of depression of respiratory and coughing centers, were actively moving and did not require oxygen therapy. They also showed less severe signs of systemic inflammation without the development of nonspecific pneumonia. Coronary blood flow was improved. At the same time the number of sanation bronchoscopies was reduced by 37% in comparison with standard methods of anesthesia in this category of patients.
