The paper outlines the results of a pilot sociological study on the ideas of Primorsky Krai population about high-tech medical care (HTMC). In the authors’ opinion, to increase its accessibility for Russian people is one of the priorities of the national Health Project. The lack of citizens’ awareness of HTMC services for the treatment of complex diseases at the expense of the Federal Compulsory Medical Insurance Fund is a factor that reduces the level of availability of HTMC for the subjective reasons. More than half of respondents involved in the survey find it difficult to explain the meaning of the term ‘high-tech medical care’. A significant number of interviewees state that high-tech care is unavailable to most residents. A third of respondents believe that HTMC is a fee-based service. This assumption is not true because the Federal Compulsory Medical Insurance Fund provides HTMC treatment based on quotas for free. The research findings confirm the hypothesis about a low awareness of Primorsky Krai population of this type of care and the right to free HTMC.
