An experience of comparative analysis of machine building development in Russia and the U.S

Machine building is a branch which under current conditions predetermines the quality of population's life and creates opportunities for sustainable development of the national economy. The output of competitive products in this kind of economic activity, including output of new machines, equipment, automobiles, creates a basis for the increase in labor productivity, promotes technical retooling of enterprises and more effective implementation of resources, raw materials, energy. Unfortunately, in the Russian Federation volumes and share of machine building in industrial production are still low, being considerably inferior to developed foreign countries, first of all the USA. The article shows that at present the USA is the world's largest manufacturer of machines; the ratio of this production in the overall volume of shipped goods (works, services) in manufacturing in 2014 equaled 30.1%. The author considers American experience of state support of machine building industry. From this perspective the author suggests main courses for this branch's promotion in the Russian Federation. They implicate the development of activities to extend practice of funding key projects in machine building at the expense of government budget, promotion of converting research and development military projects to the sphere of civilian use, amplification of stimulation tools in domestic industrial policy. The author bases his research on the works of Russian and foreign scholars, practitioners and specialists in machine building.
