The study raises the issue of food supplies in the war, which can be considered one of the most important in the conditions of military operations. The outbreak of the Great Patriotic War required an urgent reorganization of the entire provision on the home front of the Soviet Army, concerning food supply, in particular. Changes in the food service were held ongoing. Over the years of the war, more than a hundred of orders of the USSR People’s Defense Commissariat were issued. The author reviews the question of food supply during the Great Patriotic War in the Red Army and the Wehrmacht Army. The norms and the list of supposed products for both armies are given. Moreover, the article analyzes catering at the fore front and it is relevant in light of the preparations for the celebration of the 75th anniversary of the Great Victory.
