The basic professional competence of the modern education manager is studied in the article, as follows willingness to organize group work based on knowledge of the group dynamics processes and principles of team building. The process of organization of teamwork by education manager is considered within the frameworks of educational institution that to ensure operative and effective functioning and development of educational institutions of higher professional education. The authors conclude that the ability of the education manager to organize teamwork for solving problems of educational institution development - it is the integrative quality of the individual, reflected in its socio-psychological ability to create the informal original teams; members of these teams are united a common purpose, they master developed collective procedures of actions coordination with the purpose to achieve optimal results and they are responsible for their activity based on the prioritized responsibility of their leader.
