The article provides information about the activities of one of the largest water sports societies of the Russian Empire - Voronezh Petrovsky Yacht-Club. This organization was created for the purpose of popularization of sailing and rowing sports among the residents of Voronezh and organization of their leisure time in the second half of the XIX century. The topic of future research work is formed separately and its relevance is given. The source base of this article is briefly analyzed. The relevance of the research work is connected with the insufficient study of the activity of the Voronezh Yacht-Club in pre-revolutionary Russia. The source base is the materials of the funds of the Russian State Archive of the Navy and reports on the activities of the Petrovsky Yacht-Club. The principles of scientific objectivity and historicism served as the methodological basis of the research. In the article historical-system and problem-chronological methods were used.
