Expedition and scientific-educational schools as a way to develop students’ research competence

The experience of Vitus Bering Kamchatka State University in the development of research competence, the formation of expeditionary experience, and the qualities of a “modern discoverer” among students living in a region with difficult geographical and climatic (extreme) conditions is analyzed. The concept of “modern pioneer” is revealed, and the need for the formation of appropriate competencies and expeditionary experience among university students is substantiated. The results of introducing students to research activities, creating opportunities for professional, personal and research self-realization are described. A conclusion is drawn about the effectiveness of organizing the work of expedition schools and scientific and educational schools for solving the problems outlined above, as well as for securing student youth in Kamchatka.
