The article deals with the organization of educational work of the Tatev school of S. A. Rachinsky and school for the blind and half-blind children in Smolensk province in the late XIX - early XX century provides an analysis of labor, religious, moral, physical, aesthetic education of children. The author presents the experience of these residential care institutions for the preparation of students for future independent life in society.
