Astellas Pharma is a Japanese pharmaceutical company established on April 1, 2005 by merging two of the oldest companies: Yamanouchi Pharmaceutical, founded in 1923 in Osaka, and Fujisawa Pharmaceutical, which had been operating in the Japanese market since 1894.
