Russian painting of the beginning of the XVII century, thanks to the talent of Dionysius, reaches its highest flowering. But already in his work one can notice a departure from traditional plots and almost always emphasized decorative, which indicates the emergence of a ceremonial and representative beginning in Russian art. This trend continued to develop in the ancient Russian art of the XVII century. The article is devoted to this problem, where the role of the Armory Chamber and the Embassy Order in the development of ancient Russian art of the XVII century is considered. The authors emphasize the universality of the masters of the chamber, who performed both iconographic works and parsuna. Between the icon and the parsuna during this period, you can find similarities in manufacturing technology (the use of wood and tempera paints), but the semantic content of the two genres is different. The article indicates that familiarity with the technique of Western masters (in particular, the study of linear perspective by Russian artists) led to the dominance of portrait painting over icon painting in individual works. In conclusion, it is concluded that in the second half of the XVII century, a new pictorial system begins to form, based on a realistic perception of reality. Russian Russian artists at that time got acquainted with the basic principles of Western European secular art, elements of which actively penetrated into the traditionally Russian types and genres of art, leading to their transformation and the emergence of new types of painting.
