This article analyzes the legal uncertainty surrounding the limits of selfdefense in Russian law. It examines the criteria for assessing a real threat to life and health, taking into account both the physical and mental manifestations of the danger. It examines the moment when self-defense arises and the influence of various circumstances on the assessment of the defender's actions. Particular attention is given to situations where the defender provoked the attack. Finally, it emphasizes the need for a comprehensive analysis of the circumstances of the case by the court to objectively assess the legality of selfdefense.
