The aim of this paper is to assess the key facts and statistics that demonstrate how retail grocery stores operate and develop in our ever-changing world. Trade is the leading market today at $ 11.7 trillion and is forecast to grow at a CAGR of 5.0% from 2020 to 2027. As for the current trends in the sales sector, they affect both digitalization and attracting interest to the market through attentiveness and personal actualization to the personal market of consumers. The current situation in 2020 has made a significant contribution to this sector, the main points are active flexibility to the prevailing conditions, i.e. the ability to reorient stores to a new format. Thus, in this article were considered: statistics and facts of retail trade in food; food retail trends; analysis of food retail trade in the United States and around the world; the degree of influence of Covid-19 on the market.
