Major areas of research concerning the Russian nobility between 1861 and 1917

The paper examines the major areas of research into the socio-economic position of the Russian nobility between 1861 and 1917. Traditionally, a considerable part of scientific works is devoted to the evolution of noblemen's land tenure as well as an analysis of the economic activities of landlords during the Russian capitalist modernization era. There is evidence that understanding the socio-economic position of the nobility from the perspective of regional specifics has become one of the priority research areas in historical science. The paper extends the topics of scientific research in this field, including study of social and political activity of the nobility, assessment of their participation in government, the work of zemstvo and noblemen's legislative assemblies, the fate of a particular noble family, the specific process of education and education of children, consideration of charity as one of the manifestations of social activity of the nobility, description of the noble estates in terms of their symbolic meaning for the study of the history period. Justifies the prospects of the nobility's role in the context of the development of the indigenous culture of the Russian Empire's nations. The creation of historical portraits of noble leaders, entrepreneurs, major industrialists, and officers involved in the Russo-Japanese War and World War I is also considered important for science
