Main directions of the foreign policy of Muammar Gaddafi in the Arab world

Бесплатный доступ

The stage of Muammar Gaddafi's reign is one of the turning points in Libyan history, particularly characterized by active foreign policy aimed at Arab integration. Becoming a follower of Gamal Abdel Nasser in the unionist concept, the Libyan leader systematically turned to the heads of the Mashrek and Maghreb states with proposals for integration. Even though the ideas of M. Gaddafi found a response among the broad masses, most of the projects were not fully implemented at the highest state level, due to differences in foreign policy priorities, socio-economic systems and the obvious threat to the sovereignty of possible partner states. It is important that M. Gaddafi's support for radical movements and terrorist organizations led to mistrust on the part of most Arab leaders, and then to the isolation of Libya in the international arena.
