The article describes the basic concepts of combinatorial linguistics. The basis of the combination direction is combinatorics (substitution and rearrangement of language units) and syntagmatics (sequence of language units). Syntagmatics is a phenomenon of linguistic units that manifests itself in language and speech. Syntagmatics includes valency (the potential compatibility of language units) and compatibility (the implementation of valency in speech). Also, the concepts of “distribution” (a set of compatible word connections) and “context” (a set of words, grammatical forms and constructions in the environment of which a given word is used) are also used in combinatorial linguistics.
