This article is devoted to studying the theoretical foundations of the jury trial. It defines the main characteristics and features of this legal institution. On the basis of legal provisions and features of the jury trial activities in several foreign countries, as well as the opinions of Russian scientists, the author presents the essential characteristics of the jury trial and formulates its definition.
