The phantasmagoric aesthetics of the animation film by A. Yu. Khrzhanovsky The Nose, or the Conspiracy of Mavericks is viewed as an interpretation of Meyerhold thought of the historical process not as the drying up or interruption of cultural traditions, but on the contrary, as their accumulation with the help of bodily-plastic practices, and historical crises as the result not of a conflict or misunderstanding, but a substitution of the order of theatrical ritual, including in public life, by grammatical data ordering. This historiosophy shows similarity to Berdyaev's and Vyacheslav Ivanov's conceptions of the world culture. In the film under consideration, this program of Meyerhold defines such moments of the film as pictorial quotes and allusions, some plot twists and a general interpretation of Gogol's work, based on the theoretical positions of the film's screenwriter Yury Arabov. These moments of aesthetic historiosophy determined both genre features and individual fictional techniques of the film.
