Diagnosis of multifocal atherosclerosis in low-to moderate-risk patients and their restratification

This article covers current views on the role of subclinical carotid atherosclerosis as a biomarker and equivalent of coronary heart disease. It focuses on the detection of subclinical multifocal atherosclerosis in low- to moderate-risk patients, which enables disease diagnosis, its verification, restratification of patients, identification of high- and very high-risk individuals, and implementation of a complex of therapeutic and preventive measures, including aggressive lipid-regulating pharmacotherapy.
