Features of diuretics pharmacoepidemiology in accordance to current guidelines for the treatment of arterial hypertension

Currently, the prevalence of arterial hypertension is very high. In the world, 7 million people die and 15 million people suffer from high blood pressure every year. This is the most frequent risk factor of mortality in the world. Diuretics play a special role in the treatment of hypertension: significant number of patients have sodium and fluid retention in the body; a violation of the electrolyte balance of the vascular wall has a pathogenetic significance in hypertension. Thiazide drugs were used as diuretics of choice. At the same time, current clinical guidelines recommend the use of thiazide-like diuretics in patients without clinically significant congestion. The study assessed the structure of diuretics consumption in regional pharmaceutical market.
