This review focuses on the prevention of cardiovascular diseases and their complications in elderly patients. It discusses disease diagnosis, its verification, and risk stratification of patients. High- and very high-risk patients should receive aggressive lipid-regulating pharmacotherapy with statins in order to control the level of low-density lipoprotein-cholesterol. Such therapy has some specific features in elderly patients.
