The paper reviews characteristics of the occupation layer at the Oldovan siteof Mukhkai II, layer 80. The dating of the site falls between 2,1-1,7 million years ago.Cultural deposits at the site are preserved in situ. Preservation conditions of the occupationlayer offered an opportunity to describe the structure of the site and organization of economicactivities at the site. The paper attempts to recreate stages of the site occupation, conditionsunder which cultural remains were buried, geological and natural processes that impactedit at a whole new level. Overall characteristics described find parallels among some otherOldovan sites in Caucasus, Africa and the Middle East.
