Features of the new urban settlements formation in Zabaikalye (1950-1980s)

The article considers the prerequisites for the emergence of new settlements in Zabaykalye in the 1950s-1990s, analyzes the natural and geographical features, state policy, socio-economic structure of young settlements, identifies sources of labor supply, the nature of work in enterprises, and the city-forming basis of settlements. As the transition to a socially-oriented model of modernization occurred, the government's attention to the social sphere, issues of material incentives and moral stimulation of citizens, and the cultural level of the population has increased in the new cities. In conclusion, the authors conclude that the urban settlements in the region under consideration, which emerged as transport hubs, had prerequisites for the formation of a diversified socio-economic structure. Single-industry productions with corresponding societies have been developed in mining centers.
