We examined 40 patients with metabolic syndrome who had myocardial infarction with class III angina. Study participants were divided into two equal groups according to their coronary index (CI): patients in Group 1 had CI below 17, whereas patients in Group 2 had CI of 17 and greater. The examination was performed before coronary artery bypass surgery (CABS) and one year postoperatively. Myocardial revascularization using CABS in combination with pharmacotherapy resulted in an increased exercise tolerance and a lower functional class of angina one year postoperatively. Regression of systolic and diastolic dysfunction was less pronounced in patients with higher degree and greater area of coronary stenosis.
