The article presents the results of a study of castor oil supplied to the pharmaceutical market by enterprises of the Kaluga and Tula region, according to some indicators that allow us to identify a number of features of its chemical composition. The analysis included specific chemical reactions to individual groups of biologically active substances, performing elemental analysis, using the IR spectroscopy method, determining the acid number, viscosity and freezing point. The experiment revealed the presence of castor oil tocopherols, phylloquinones, phospholipids, and an increased content of unsaturated and free higher fatty acids. The presence of heavy metal compounds was noted in one of the tested oil samples.
