Features and main problems of category management in Russia

This study presents the study of the “category management” approach, which is quite young, since it began its development in the 90s of the 20th century. In the Russian Federation, categorical management was first used in 2000 by international companies, and received its maximum distribution in 2009. The current problematic situations of the Russian Federation, namely sanctions and the complicated political situation, have affected all areas, including category management. In this regard, this study will identify the main problems of category management in Russia, as well as its features. The analysis of problems and features was carried out on the basis of the Pyaterochka retail network. Surveys were conducted among the heads of 9 departments, which helped to identify the main difficulties and features faced by the retail chain in 2014 after the introduction of Western sanctions, in 2020 under the influence of the Covid-19 pandemic and in 2022 after the complication of the political situation. The specialists also highlighted the main features of category management in Russia, taking into account which companies can develop and increase their profits.
