The article gives an overview of the public historical and political discourse and the struggle for influence in the highest party-state bodies of the USSR during the first half of 1954. This period was characterized by the ever-increasing activity in the public space of Soviet political leaders. The most effective opportunities were used by the first secretary of the CPSU Central Committee Khrushchev N.S., which helped him during this short period to take the leading position and finally move the center of power from the Council of Ministers of the USSR to the Central Committee of the CPSU. In achieving his goals, Khrushchev broke the patterns of representation of top party leaders that had developed in the postwar period, partially returning to the practice of the 1930-s. Rivalry and activity of political leaders were directly connected with the programs of reforms of society and economy of the Soviet Union, with the definition of the main vectors of development of the USSR.
