Advantages of recurrent breeding of agricultural plants in comparison with transsgresive breeding in selection for yield and other quantitative traits may be realized only using reliable methods of identification of desirable genotypes. The principles of recurrent breeding with utmost short cycle of selection were laid in method of breeding and in proved seed production of sunflower varietis. Their high efficiency was caused by using of trait of oil content seeds (kernels) characterizing plant ability to use effectively nitrogen and other resources of environment for producing utilized part of yield for identification genotypes productive in agrocenosis. Learning and development of Pustovoit’s heritage, adaptation of his methods to new conditions accounting modem achievements of science are the important conditions of further evolution of sunflower as oil crop.
