Features of interpretation of the fairy tale "Karlsson-on-the-roof" by A. Lindgren in the cartoon by B. Stepantsev

The purpose of the study is to identify the features of the interpretation of the A. Lindgren's tale "Karlsson-on-the-roof" in the process of translation it into language of visual images by Boris Stepantsev, the author of the cartoon "Karlsson-on-the-roof", 1967. In this case, the interpretation is based not so much on a simple translation from one semiotic system to another, but on the author's text understanding focusing on the emotional and psychological component in the text. Unlike the literary text, in the cartoon there is no traditional genre fairytale structure. In the cartoon version fairytale elements are blurred, cultural and everyday characteristics are showed extremely conditionally, as a result, there is a new genre - not a magical and not a household tale. We can say that this is, to some extent, a psychological tale, since the creators are paying much attention to the emotional, psychological state of the characters (first of all, Lillebror). The author shows the child's perception of the world: the audience sees events and things through the Lillebror's eyes, the audience feel his oppressive loneliness (which contradicts with the real relation to the Lillebror in the family), the audience feel his experiences connected with the dog...
