Features of using the historical and cultural potential of the Kola North in tourist and excursion activities (1920-1930s)

The paper examines the features of actualization of historical and cultural heritage of the Kola North in 1920-1930s by means of tourist and excursion activity. The novelty lies in the analysis of this process on the basis of the archival and published sources, which made it possible to identify its main directions. The actuality of the theme is determined by the necessity to study the Soviet experience in organizing tourism, which makes it possible to compare it with modern practices. In the period under consideration, there has been a change in approaches to the use of the historical and cultural potential of the region, expressed in the contrasting material embodiments of traditional and post-revolutionary culture. It is noted that the importance of places and sites connected with revolutionary events, intervention and the Civil War on the territory of the region is increasing in excursion work. The above changes were the result of the activities of the local state administration, the management of the Murmansk Railway and the regional structures of the Proletarian Tourism and Excursion Society.
