The article deals with neologisms and occasional words. The basic principles of differentiation of these concepts are considered. Neologisms’ nominative function and occasional words’ stylistic function are specially noted. British (New Scientist, Economist, Look) and American (Science News, Cosmopolitan, Buzzfeed) magazine articles are studied.
