The data in a comparative perspective about the peculiarities of expression and distribution of pro-inflammatory cytokines (IL-1, IL-2, IL-6 and TNF-α) in tissue of intact peritoneum and pelvic adhesions in women of reproductive age with chronic inflammatory diseases of the pelvic organs (PID) are described in this article. In immunohistochemical study of intact parietal peritoneum the proinflammatory cytokines IL-1, IL-2, IL-6 and TNF-α was determined only in a few cells, which is regarded as a negative result and indicated the absence of inflammation in the abdominal cavity and pelvic organs. Low expression of markers of IL-1, IL-2, IL-6 and TNF-αwas observed in the tissue of adhesions in patients with chronic PID. Low expression of proinflammatory cytokines in adhesions in chronic PID indicates the inhibition of the exudative phase of the inflammatory process and activation of the fibrous tissue remodeling processes with increased collagen formation and the formation of coarse-fibered adhesions. The definition of proinflammatory cytokines expression (IL-1, IL-2, IL-6 and TNF-α) in adhesions’tissue at chronic PID can provide substantial assistance in predicting their formation and recurrence after surgical treatment
