The conditions of formation, structure and properties of boride iron layers on carbon steels at electron beam borating are investigated. A new process to make layers of iron borides (Fe2B, FeB) using electron beam is reported. The microstructure and micro-hardness of boride layers are studied and compared to layer properties obtained at solid phase borating.
