The results of the study levels of cognitive functioning of preschool children who underwent neonatal intensive care unit. Despite suffering critical condition in the neonatal period of 100 children, more than half (60 %) to the senior preschool age showed normal levels of intelligence, full readiness for school, which was confirmed by the test results Raven Coloured Progressive Matrices. Notable was the fact that this group has two children (2 %) had a high level of intelligence and advancing cognitive development. The second group (21 %) on the test results were children with borderline intellectual disabilities that with appropriate treatment and rehabilitation in the long term may reach a higher level of cognitive functioning. Axial psychopathological symptom in children of the study group was tserebrastenicheskom syndrome exhibit high exhaustion and a significant decrease in performance. Features of clinical picture manifested partiality in intellectual disorders (some children had preserved cognitive interest, sufficient mechanical and audio-verbal memory). The third group (19 %) included children with mental retardation who have been diagnosed all of the major signs of mental underdevelopment: a slowdown in the higher cortical functions (motor skills, speech, memory, attention, thinking); emotional immaturity; partial; irreversible disorders. Cognitive impairment had varying degrees of severity, from mild to severe mental retardation. The severity of the mental status was determined by the level of cognitive functioning is consistent with the severity of structural damage and the severity of neurological symptoms (paralysis, paresis, ataxia, hyperkinesis).
