Features of criminological characteristics of violent crimes committed by convicts on the grounds of affirmation or self-affirmation

The relevance of the stated topic is due to the fact that one of the significant needs of a developing personality is the need for affirmation or self-affirmation. Crimes motivated by affirmation or self-affirmation are committed by various actors, especially minors, officials and convicts. Convicts, in an effort to achieve “high self-esteem”, increase self-esteem, selfworth, and group (social) status, often commit violent crimes, which negatively affects their correction. In order to develop effective measures to prevent these crimes, it is necessary to determine their criminological features. The results of the study can be used by the legislator in improving criminal legislation in this part and other legislation; by law enforcement officers - in developing effective measures to prevent violent crimes motivated by the assertion or self-affirmation committed by convicts; by scientists - in further studying the acts under investigation and developing measures to prevent them. As a conclusion, the author notes that the most violent crimes are committed by convicts for reasons of affirmation or self-affirmation: for reasons of self-affirmation (68.3 %); in the amount of one crime (79.4 %), in the Central Federal District (27.5 %), Volga Federal District (20.6 %), North-Western Federal District (15.3 %); in urban areas (69.3 %); while serving a custodial sentence (58.7 %); alone (66.7 %); not in a state of alcoholic, narcotic or other intoxication (64.4 %); at different times of the year; in the evening (42.8 %), in the afternoon (41.8 %); by striking (66.7 %); on the territory of the correctional institution (58.7 %). Violent crime committed by convicts on the grounds of affirmation or self-affirmation is situational (64.0 %), i.e. it is not planned or prepared in advance by the perpetrators.
