Features of critical realism and main topics in later Chekhov's works on the example of story "Chamber № 6"

This article highlights the features of the later stories, where Chekhov portrays characters from many strata of Russian society, including the peasantry, the intelligentsia and the world of industrial trade. Often described as character sketches, his works are characterized by simple storylines, an accurate, almost clinical, narrative voice, and lyrical language. Chekhov's depiction of the great themes of Russian culture, including the mythology of freedom, violent insurrection, order and power, was considered. Among their characteristic features it is possible to allocate not only revolutionary realism, but also special attention to public consciousness of the people. It can be concluded that the writer vividly reflected the spirit of his time. As a result, we analyzed the manifestations of critical realism and expressions of the main themes in Chekhov's later works on the example of the story «Chamber № 6».
