Features of the Hispanic national characters

The article discusses the problem of national character and value systems of the Hispanic (Venezuelans, Colombians and Argentines) and shows its lexical manifestations in a communicative process in Latin-American variants. The purpose of the article is to define the notion of national character and identify the values of Venezuelans, Colombians and Argentines and to demonstrate their influence on the language behavior of communicators and communicants and their choice of verbal means. The research employs the method of continuous sampling, the comparative method and the methods of linguistic observation and description. On the basis of material analysis, the study identifies the significance of the values of “the worship of beauty”, “gastronomy”, “hedonism”, “stimulation”, “abilities, influence”, “self-preservation”, and “independence”. These values determine the usage of phraseological units in speech and explain the origin of certain phraseological units. The findings are applicable in Hispanic studies, cross-cultural communication, axiolinguistics, cultural linguistics and related disciplines. The results may be useful for all who are interested in Hispanic cultural identity. References are recommended for writing course papers and theses.
