The author defines the crucial role of motivation in the management of the human capital of an innovation-oriented enterprise. The article provides the concept of motivation, the classification of motivation, identifies the fundamental issues that need to be addressed in this area. The first key issue is the comparability of remuneration of employees included in innovation processes with other employees and with market conditions.The second problem is the difficulty of linking the material remuneration, which is envisaged in the current period with the results of the future, which may not be. The author identifies four methods (tools) of financial incentives used by companies in the field of innovative development: programs of deferred payments, participation in profits, participation in capital, bonuses for competences. For each of them, a description and evaluation of their positive and negative features of the application is given.
