Peculiarity of metonymic transfer of meaning in the structure of the old English verbs

The analysis of ambiguity of the ancient word allows us to understand the peculiarities of people’s thinking, belonging to a different era. Metonymic transfer of meaning, carried out on the basis of contiguity of objects, allows us to analyze the essence of associations, leading to the formation of polysemy. At present we perceive it as homonymy.
